The Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB) supports our member state licensure boards in their task of protecting the public by assessing initial licensure, monitoring licensure portability, ensuring competency, managing renewals, handling disciplinary action, and revising statutes and regulations.

To this end, we perform a variety of services including providing a clearinghouse for information and research, producing and maintaining the Marital and Family Therapy National exam, crafting model law, and facilitating communication among our stakeholders. In addition, the members of AMFTRB continually explore current regulatory issues, such as telemental health and licensure portability, offering suggestions and guidelines to assist regulators as they make important decisions that impact the profession of marriage and family therapy.

Attention MFT National Exam Candidates:
AMFTRB is aware of several scams targeting MFT National Examination candidates. They include offers of access to live test items appearing on the MFT National Examination and offers to change candidate scores. Purchasing such services will likely result in financial loss and may constitute ethics violations. Two AMFTRB-sanctioned sources of information for MFT National Examination candidates are the Candidate Handbook on AMFTRB’s website and the information found on AMFTRB’s website under the tab Students, MFT Candidates & Licensees. AMFTRB’s website can be accessed at amftrb.org.
